Im Juli 2007 haben Holyhell einen hervorragenden Auftritt auf dem ersten Magic Circle Festival dargeboten. Dieses Jahr werden sie nach Bad Arolsen zurück kehren. Vor ein paar Tagen hatte ich die Chance, der Sängerin Mariah Breon einige Fragen zu stellen.
Und hier sind sie….

Bist Du mit den Resonanz auf “Apocalypse” zufrieden, die ihr bislang von den Fans und der Presse erhalten habt?

Absolut. Wir hätten niemals eine bessere Resonanz erwarten können, sie ist besser als wir uns jemals erhofft und vorgestellt haben.

Was entgegnest Du Leuten, die behauten, dass Eure Musik stark Bands wie Nightwish ähnelt?

Wir hatten eine komplett gegenteilige Resonanz zu unserer Musik im Vergleich zu Nightwish und anderen weiblich angeführten Bands. In der Regel sagen die Leute “Gott sei Dank, kein weitere Nightwish – Abklatsch!”. Meiner Meinung nach besteht die einzige Ähnlichkeit darin, dass wir beide Heavy Bands mit weiblichen Haupt-Sängern sind, dann endet die Ähnlichkeit auch schon. Wir haben unsere eigenen Eigenheiten und Stärken – sie die ihren. Ich bin sicher, dass jeglicher Vergleich ein Kompliment für uns wäre; die Mitglieder von Nightwish und ihr Management sind mit unseren befreundet. Obgleich wir Ihre neue Sängerin noch nicht getroffen haben, freuen wir uns für sie genauso wie für Tarja’s Solo-Erfolg.

Ich denke, die Songs von “Apocalypse” beinhalten verschiedene Stilrichtungen. Wird sich das Album in Vollzeit Länge in dieselbe Richtung bewegen?

Ja, das wird es. Wir haben all die großartigen Dinge, die uns in der Musik inspirieren, wie Melodik, Powermetal und Drama vereint und man wird sie alle in den Aufnahmen wiederfinden.

Was erwartest Du im Hinblick auf das bevorstehende Magic Circle Festival 2008 ?

Wir freuen darauf, uns mit all den Fans wieder zu verbinden und eine großartige Show abzuliefern. Wir planen eine spezielle Autogrammstunde mit zusätzlicher Zeit für Fotos und um auf unsere Fan seinzugehen und uns mit ihnen zu unterhalten. Das wird eine prima Gelegenheit, Autogramme ohne Eile zu geben.

Rhino ist Euer Schlagzeuger, Joey DeMaio produzierte Eure CD und Eric Adams singt bei “Phantom der Oper”mit. Wie seid Ihr mit den derzeitigen Manowar Mitgliedern in Kontakt gekommen?

Manowar sind bei der Entstehung von Holyhell für vieles verantwortlich; wir wurden von Ihrem Label unter Vertrag genommen. Joey DeMaio und ich haben Holyhell von Grund auf aufgebaut, meisterliche Musiker und hervorragende Songwriter gesucht. Das Phantom der Oper mit dem letztendlichen Lineup aufzuführen, war eine Vision seit Mitte der 90er, und wer wäre dafür geeigneter gewesen als Eric Adams? Von Anfang an, war uns klar, dass Rhino die ideale Besetzung wäre und – hier sind wir!

Es gibt unterschiedliche Kritiken zu dem neuen Manowar Album. Was hältst Du von „Gods of war“?

Ich denke, es wird immer unterschiedliche Reaktionen auf einen Künstler geben, der seinen Visionen und seinen Fans folgt anstatt dem aktuellen Trend. Meiner Meinung nach ist es fantastisch anders und bleibt dennoch dem üblichen Manowar Stil treu. Wenn ich das komplette Album anhöre, fühle ich als ob ich auf einer Reise gewesen wäre.

Mariah, soweit vielen Dank. Was sind Deine weiteren Pläne für 2008?

Wir möchten das Album 2008 zur Veröffentlichung freigeben; wir werden definitiv neue Songs für das Magic Circle Festival freigeben.

In july 2007 HolyHell did a great performance at the first Magic Circle Festival. This year they will return again to Bad Arolsen. Some days ago I had the chance to ask female vocalist Maria Breon some questions. Here we go...

Are you satisfied with the reactions you got for "Apocalypse" from the fans and the press so far?

Absolutely, we couldn’t have asked for a better reaction, it’s more than we ever dreamed or imagined happening.

What do you reply to people who say that your music is very much similar to bands like Nightwish?

We had the complete opposite response to our music in comparison to Nightwish and other female fronted bands. People as a rule are saying, “Thank God it’s not another clone of Nightwish” In my opinion the only similarity is we are both female fronted Heavy Bands, then I think the similarity stops. We have our own entity and power and they have theirs. I am certain any comparison would be a compliment to us; the members of Nightwish and their management are friends of ours. Although we have not met the new singer, we are happy for them as well Tarja’s solo success.

In my opinion the songs on "Apocalypse" feature some different styles.Will the full length album turn into the same direction?

Yes it will, we’ve combined all of the great things we find inspiring in music, such as melody, power metal, and drama, so you will find it all on the record.

What do you expect concerning the upcoming Magic Circle Festival in 2008?

We are looking forward to reconnecting with all the fans and delivering great shows. We are planning a special autograph signing where we can take extra time for photos and to hang out and talk with the fans. This will be a great opportunity without having to rush signing autographs.

Rhino is your drummer, Joey de Maio produced your CD and Eric Adams sings on "Phantom of the opera". How did you get in touch with the recent Manowar-members?

Manowar is responsible for much of the development of HolyHell; we are signed to their label. Joey DeMaio and myself have built HolyHell from the ground up, seeking virtuoso musicians and great songwriters. Performing the Phantom Of The Opera with the final line up was a vision from the mid nineties, and who better than with Eric Adams himself? We knew from the beginning Rhino would be perfect and so here we are.

There are some different reviews about the new Manowar album. What is your opinion about "Gods of war"?

I think there will always be mixed responses to an artist who follows their vision and their fans instead of trends. In my opinion the album is fantastically different yet holding to the Manowar standard. I listen to the entire album and feel like I had just been on a journey.

Maria, thanks so far. What are your further plans for 2008?

We would like to release the album in 2008; we will definitely release new songs for the Magic Circle Festival.
